Welcome to the Northern Colorado Grotto

Northern Colorado Grotto members outside Groaning Cave

Welcome to the website of the Northern Colorado Grotto (NCG). The NCG is a local chapter of the National Speleological Society (NSS) based in Fort Collins, Colorado. Regular meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month. Visitors are always welcome! Details regarding our next meeting can be found at the bottom of this page, or you can use the interactive calendar at the right to browse all of our upcoming events.

The Northern Colorado Grotto is foremost a group of cavers; nevertheless, grotto members share a wide variety of interests. Caving is often regarded as an adventure sport, but in many ways this is misleading. Because the exploration of caves can be extremely dangerous, it is important to thoroughly understand the dangers associated with caving—so that you can take reasonable steps to mitigate the risks of venturing underground. Unlike many similar activities, the amateur caver has a unique opportunity to contribute to the scientific study and exploration of cave ecosystems. If you are new to caving or interested in learning more about caves you should contact someone from an NSS grotto in your area. By clicking on the "Links" button at the right, you can access a variety of cave related websites.
